A Traditional Funeral Service is when your loved one is prepared for a public viewing to be held at the funeral home, church, or other venue that allows for a casket to be opened. The viewing / visitation is usually the night before the service and the funeral service is held the next day. Our services can consist of DVD video tributes, readings, prayers, music, eulogies with family and friends sharing memories of their loved one.
Committal services are usually held after the funeral service at the cemetery in conjunction with burial of the casket or urn. This is where family and friends say their final goodbyes. Cemeteries usually provide a bucket of dirt or sand for families to place a handful of soil in the grave. Some family and friends choose to place flowers instead. A reception can follow the committal service at the family’s home or other venue.
Graveside Funeral Services
Graveside services are held at the cemetery with no viewing. This type of service usually includes the family speaking, some scripture reading and a eulogy or message.
Celebration Of Life Ceremony
A Celebration of Life ceremony or Memorial Service is an alternative to the traditional funeral service. It provides a time and place to remember and talk about a loved one’s life. These ceremonies are usually scheduled days to weeks after the death for the convenience or needs of the family and can be conducted at our funeral chapel, church or other venue. Celebration of Life Ceremonies usually are conducted without a casket present. Families will usually display an urn, photos of their loved one, flowers and/or personal mementos. They may include many of the elements of a traditional funeral such as service folders, DVD video tributes, readings, prayers, music, eulogies, balloon/dove releases, etc. to honor the life of their loved one.
A simple cremation does not include any type of celebration of life or memorial service. After all the necessary paperwork is completed and permits obtained, the deceased is then transported to the crematory. After the cremation has taken place, the cremated remains are placed in an urn and can then be sent home with the family or prepared for burial or placement in a niche at a cemetery.
A traditional cremation would include all the elements of a traditional funeral. It provides an opportunity for family and friends to offer condolences and pay their respects to the deceased. After the services have concluded and all the necessary paperwork and permits are obtained, the deceased is then transported to the crematory.
Veteran / Military Services
Military services are very similar to our traditional funeral services with a formal military ceremony. The viewing / visitation is usually the night before the service and the funeral service is held the next day. The flag will be displayed either on the casket or folded and placed in a spot of prominence. Veteran / military services may include many of the elements of a traditional funeral such as DVD video tributes, readings, prayers, music, eulogies with family and friends sharing memories of their loved one. The military ceremony usually consists of flag folding presentation, the playing of Taps and if eligible, a rifle volley. The preferred method to verifying eligibility is the DD214. Our funeral home staff will request the DD214 from the family in order to request military honors.
