Obituary

Christine Dolores Behrens, 79, of Avondale, AZ died January 30, 2017 in Goodyear, AZ. She was born January 6, 1938 in Hoboken, NJ to Francis Baselice and Angela Mongiello. Christine spent most of her working life in the insurance industry. She received the designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (C.P.C.U.) and was recognized as an associate in risk management by The Insurance Institute of America. Residing in New Jersey, she owned an insurance brokerage and upscale Italian restaurant with her late husband Lawrence. They moved to California in the late seventies where she held numerous top executive positions with international insurance companies until her retirement in 2011 when she moved to Arizona.

In her social time she loved the theater, was an invaluable member of the Soroptimist organization, gave her time to the suicide prevention hotline and managed to find time to enjoy her love of dancing and music. Christine had a very creative eye and loved working on interior and exterior design in her families’ homes. She made biscotti for family and friends that was the best ever. She is already being missed by her family and friends.

Christine is survived by her partner, Roger Whincup; daughter, Stacey Armstrong; son, Larry Behrens; sisters, Irene Metzner and Gen Martino; brother, Manny Baselice; and two grandchildren, Nicole and Seth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence G. Behrens, Sr. Condolences for the family may be left at www.thompsonfuneralchapel.com.

To Roger, Manny, Stacey, Larry and Kim – I am so sorry to hear about Chris. As you know, we were friends for so many years and for me, the world is less without her. I loved my friend deeply – and she will always, always be a part of my life, for there are so many memories I carry with me. In the past and in the future, every time I make her biscotti I think of her. Whenever I’m in or near Concord, or deal with my insurance, or go to the theater, or read a good book, or sing or dance or just find something so crazy funny that laughter overwhelms me (as we used to do), I will think of her. Even the sad, difficult times we shared – giving each other strength to move ahead, I will remember. She was always there when I needed her – and I tried my best to do the same. She was my forever sister.

My heart goes out to you all as you struggle to get through the days ahead. I hope and pray that you eventually find peace and comfort in your memories of her.

Much love and many hugs to you always.

  2. Mom, We miss you so much.
    All our love forever.

    1. Dear Larry and Stacey
Words cannot express how sorry I am for the loss of your mom. I loved her and will miss her dearly. I am so glad I got to see her and spend time with her the last time she was here in NJ.
I pray that God brings you peace in this difficult time.
Take comfort in knowing she loved you and was loved much by others during her time here on earth. And now she is enjoying the greastet Love imaginable in the arms of the Father
It’s been almost a lifetime since I have seen or communicated with either of you, but do know that to this day I still look back and cherish with fond memory the times we shared together. Especially those weeks we would spend at each others houses in the summers. Good memories great times. Hope someday soon we will meet face to face again. Till then stay well my dear cousins and know I will always love you.
      With deepest sympathies,
      Cousin Chris

  4. I will love and miss my vibrant and fun loving sister for the remainder of my days. The memory of her will bring a smile on the faces of anyone who was blessed to know her.

    1. To my dear Aunt Chris, you will be greatly missed , I have nothing but happy memories with you , spending weekends at your house , swimming in the pool when I was a kid , holidays sitting at the table laughing so hard tears rolled down our faces. listening to you and your sisters and brother talking and laughing till the wee hours of the morning, and I will never forget your sense of fashion, jeans and toe rings very hip lady. there is one memory that will always stick in my head and that’s watching you put your mascara on while driving , cool but not safe I used to think . You are a special lady , I love you and my life has been blessed for having you as my Aunt and God mother ,
      Love Karen
