Obituary

Troy Howard Buchanan – dedicated father of two, and friend of many – passed away on February 20, 2023 at the age of 57 in Goodyear, AZ.

Troy was born to Paul and Sheryol Buchanan in Waterloo, IA and later moved with his family to Claremont, CA. He graduated from Claremont High School before attending San Diego State University where he was awarded Bachelor of Science in Business Administration & Marketing. During his time at SDSU, he was a proud member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. After graduation, Troy began his career at the San Diego Padres. Later, Troy moved to San Jose to begin his journey in software and technology as a Sales Executive. While starting his career, he married Sally (Mott) Buchanan, and they spent 33 years working together as they built their family. Married in 1988, Troy and Sally welcomed two sons together, Cody in 1997 and Tyler in 1998.

Troy was an excellent athlete and through the years enjoyed golfing with his friends, colleagues and sons, playing ice hockey, deep sea fishing, and spending time in Hampton & Clear Lake, IA. At the lake, he could be found jet skiing, water skiing, and boating with his family. Troy was constantly making friends wherever he went. He was a stranger to no one and found great purpose sharing in the successes, joys, and challenges of those around him. Troy was always the life of the party, a generous person and wholeheartedly there for those in his life. Troy spent the last year and a half of his life in Goodyear, AZ.

He leaves behind his parents Paul and Sheryol Buchanan; his sister Heidi (Buchanan) Adams, brother-in-law Steve Adams, his nephews Nick and Parker Adams; and his beloved sons, Cody and Tyler Buchanan.

In his memory, donations can be made to Troy’s donation page at the United Heroes League which actively works to ensure that children of military service members can afford every opportunity to participate in sports. Any donations that the family has received will be sent to the same charity. We would also invite you to share your remembrances and condolences on our virtual tribute wall.

There will be several celebrations of Troy’s life. His children are hosting a gathering in the Bay Area (San Jose) at La Rinconada Country Club at 14595 Clearview Drive, Los Gatos, CA 95032 on May 3rd, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Please let us know if you will be attending through the event link HERE. A celebration of life and services will take place this spring in Hampton, IA with his immediate family and close friends.
