Obituary

Shan Kem, 29, of Phoenix, Arizona died on August 26, 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona.  He was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 13, 1991 to Anthony White and Sumi Mathews.

Shan was always independent and adventurous as well as being a self-starter and risk taker.  Early in life he lived with his mom, grandmother, and aunt in Michigan.  He taught himself everything and was walking by six months.  By the age of eight, he moved to New Jersey to live with his mother and step-father.  Shan played baseball and was always a ham who did some modeling because he liked to be in front of the camera.  Shan later attended military school in Kansas and then moved with his family to Arizona in 2005.  Shan attended Estrella Foothills High School and Estrella Mountain Church.  He later moved to California and loved Los Angeles and the beach.  He made friends that became like family members to him in California.  This is where Shan found his belonging and acceptance.  Shan then moved to New Mexico to attend school to become an occupational therapy assistant.  He worked very hard and became licensed in the state of Arizona.  He enjoyed working with his patients.  He was very funny and had dreams of moving back to California to pursue his creative side.

Shan is survived by his mom, Sumi Mathews, sister, Celine Buensuceso, brother, Dylan Buensuceso, grandmother, Thankamma Mathew, and aunt, Suji George.

My heart breaks for you, Sumi, and I’m speechless. No words can heal your heart right now but you have a friend here for comfort, a hug, an ear….whatever you need. He’s in the place we all strive to get too. He’s happy and living his best life. It’s those left behind that are struggling. I promise you, he is not. He is at peace and with you always!

Tomorrow marks 8 months without our Shan. He is so missed and needed in our life. Only thing that keeps me going in thinking that Shan is living his best life and seeing all the mysteries of this universe and hopefully doesn’t have a care in the world. Those that miss him have a huge hole in our heart and lives. My heart is broken. Always Your Mother
