Scott Henline

Obituary

Scott Henline, age 92 of Avondale, AZ died August 23, 2018, in Avondale, AZ.  He was born July 2, 1926, in Trinidad, CO to Scott and Pearl Henline.  Scott was a professional pharmacist.  He served in the US Navy from May 1994 – June 1946 achieving the rank of FC03.  He graduated from the University of New Mexico.  During his career, he established the extern program in the College of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico where he taught for two years, worked as a nuclear pharmacist in El Paso, TX and owned the Plaza Pharmacy in Albuquerque, NM until he closed it in the 1980’s.  He served on the FACS national pharmacy board for eight years.

Scott was a resident of Avondale for 30 years.  He was very civic minded.  He was a Mason, a  Shriner, a member of Estrella Toastmasters, as well as a member and past President of the Estrella Rotary club.  Retirement brought an entirely new way to teach and serve.  He worked with his daughter at the Garden Lakes Elementary School.  He began a senior’s group in Litchfield Park, AZ.  He was a Deacon for 20 years at The Church of Litchfield Park where he and his wife Gwynn also taught Sunday School to three and four-year-old children.

Scott was jovial and fun loving.  Perhaps that is why he played Santa Claus for ten years in the Litchfield Park Christmas Parade.  He had a joke for every occasion, often colorful, sometimes corny, but always good for a laugh!  He was an advocate for the West, having read every one of his father-in-law Ray Hogan’s western novels.  He loved word puzzles and had the unique talent of making complex legal and technical writings understandable for the average person.  He was a neat guy whose presence will be missed by his family, friends and all those he served in his church and community.

Scott is survived by his wife, Gwynn Henline; daughters, Jewelene Pattullo and husband Kevin, Victoria Walker-Stephenson and husband, Larry, and Starlene Montoya and husband Johnny; sons, W. Scott Henline, Robert W. Henline, Jim Cochrane, and Clay Grady and wife, Tracy; sister, Flava Crouch; eight grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.  For an update of the service date, or to leave condolences, please go to www.ThompsonFuneralChapel.com.

  5. My Dearest Gwynn and Family,

Please accept my most sincere condolences as a fellow Rotarian. Scott led our Rotary Club with pride. I can still remember he and Gwynn with matching Hawaiian shirts. He will be dearly missed, but his kindness will always be remembered. Scott truly embodied “Service Above Self”. All my love and prayers.
