Obituary

On June 5, 1946, Lawrence W. and Orvilla M. Seehusen welcomed the newest farm boy to Ft. Dodge, Iowa.  Thus began the life and times of Richard “Dick” Seehusen.  He spent the next seven-plus decades making friends and building a family with Susan D. Seehusen (born Regan), who he married on March 12, 1967.  Dick passed peacefully on March 19, 2024.

If you are reading this, there is a good chance you have lived in at least one of the following towns: Pomeroy, Iowa; Greeley, Colorado; Racine, Wisconsin; Canon City, Colorado; Holyoke, Colorado; Leadville, Colorado; Buena Vista, Colorado; Alamogordo, New Mexico; Alpine, Arizona, Fountain Hills, Arizona; Buckeye, Arizona, or Pine, Arizona.  Dick was never one to shy away from setting down roots in new areas, which is exactly why he was able to make so many friends during his time here on earth.

And Dick had a LOT of friends.  He made friends when he worked as an educator (having obtained his Master’s Degree in Special Education Administration), as a business owner, an avid gardener, a lifetime member of the Elk’s Lodge, and as an active traveler.  He even managed to maintain close friendships while winning the occasional chili cookoff championship.  While not particularly known for his own cooking amongst family, Dick had no problem diagnosing what was good cooking and what was not.  If you ever heard “This is not what I had in mind,” that was Dick being gentle.

Our patriarch is survived by his wife Susan, two daughters: Amy Goodwin, who is married to Jim, and Ann Mandly, who is married to Danny. He is also survived by his grandsons Jacob and Andrew Goodwin, Parker Skiba, and granddaughter Kennady Skiba. Additionally, he leaves behind his brother, Del Seehusen, who is married to Vicki, and his sister, Diana Gagnon, who is married to Gerard. His brother-in-law Steven Regan, married to Connie, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins will also mourn his passing. His presence is deeply missed.
