Obituary

Richard (Dick) C. Falor, 81, of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Goodyear, Arizona, died on April 9, 2021. He was born on September 17, 1939, to Claude Falor and Sylvia Bayer in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dick graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, then obtained his bachelor’s degree from Augustana College and a master’s degree from St. Cloud State University. He also served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967, reaching the rank of Captain.

He was a teacher in Minneapolis Public Schools and later worked at Honeywell/Alliant Tech Systems. Dick was a storyteller extraordinaire – he loved to talk to others! – and enjoyed reading and teaching others about history.

In retirement, Dick enjoyed splitting his time between Minnesota and Arizona. Dick liked hiking, biking, golfing, playing bocce, and teaching courses in the Pebble Creek Lifelong Learning Program.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Falor, daughter Allison (Steve) Larson, and son Michael (Annette) Falor. Dick is also survived by his brother, Jim (Jan) Falor, and three grandchildren: Zachary Fitzgerald, Sam Larson, and Paige Falor. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A celebration of life gathering is being planned for the fall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Mayo Clinic or the American Heart Association in honor of Dick.

  1. Richard (Dick) C. Falor. Mr Falor as I had known him as my history teacher first at Olson Jr and then Patrick Henry high school. He was alway my favorite teacher. Because of him, I so enjoy learning more about history today. Then I got out into the work world and a job at Honeywell in Hopkins Minnesota. Then I had to take a soldering course for the new surface technology. I walk in the room and there is Mr Falor. That was fun. The last time I seen him was at the Barns and Noble book store in Maple Grove. Only if the world could have more Mr Falor history teachers. Rest in peace!

  2. Dick and I used to carpool to work together back in the 80’s. I enjoyed those rides immensely. It was amazing how many world problems we could solve together on those short rides. His ability to tell stories is not overstated. He was always interesting and funny. Rest In Peace my friend.

  3. Dick was my dear friend and I will miss him greatly. Dick took great interest in my two boys as they grew up. We all will miss Dick.

  4. Lucy and Family,
We are saddened by Dick’s death but know he is relieved of any suffering. We are so glad you were able to come visit us and we spent a fun afternoon..”telling stories”. We so enjoyed Dick’s stories. Joe and I send our love and prayers to you for comfort and peace.

  5. We met Mr. Faylor in 1977 at Patrick Henry High School, senior year, I had him as my history teacher and Mrs. Faylor was Sue’s home economics teacher. He was an amazing man, very respected and made us always . They attended our wedding in 1980 and ironically this last year we connected again and caught up on life! Mr. Faylor will be always remembered as the most kindest, coolest and great mentor that two young people could ever have! We will miss you Mr. Faylor!
