Obituary

Peter William Kovats passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday January 26, 2021. He passed away in his sleep of what appears to be natural causes. He was 48 years young, with much passion and life ahead of him. His family is looking to have more answers soon.

Peter was born in Painesville Ohio on September 25, 1972.  He grew up in Madison Ohio and graduated from Madison High School in 1991. He went on to Baldwin Wallace University, also in Ohio, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1994. He continued his education earning a master’s degree at Arizona State University in education. Peter had an outstanding enthusiasm for education and the Conscious Discipline program. Peter held teaching positions across the valley and most recently worked at Litchfield Elementary School District for 15 years. He was an outstanding Elementary Educator, Instructional Coach, and more. He was a staple of the LESD community and was beloved by all that knew him.

Peter lived a life focused on health, happiness, and ensuring educators and children could connect successfully for growth. An organization is being founded in his name, The PETIE Foundation. The foundation will concentrate efforts to ensure that we increase the reach of Conscious Discipline throughout the community, and help educators and students build happiness and success in their lives. A friend called Pete “the world’s greatest cheerleader for Conscious Discipline” and the Kovats family plans to carry out his wishes, in his name.

During his free time Peter enjoyed spending time with family, traveling to his beloved home state of Ohio and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes.  Peter was extremely talented and expressed his creative side through numerous craft projects and cooking for friends and family.

We will never be able to replace Pete’s infectious laugh, outgoing positivity, or beautiful soul but we will hold it in our hearts forever and be grateful for every moment we spent with him. He was a ray of light that never dimmed for his friends and family.

He is predeceased by his father, Paul Kovats and grandparents, Justina & William Yoe Sr., and Daisy & Peter Kovats.

Peter is survived by his Partner, Gregory Zona, his Mother, Ilona “Sis” Kovats (Yoe), three brothers Christopher Kovats, Deverest Kovats, and Nickolas (Courtney) Kovats, and nieces and nephews: Cameron Kovats (Deverest), Jordan Kovats, Gwenyth Kovats, Brynnlee Kovats, and Oakley Kovats (Nickolas)

I shed tears when I heard of his passing. I didn’t know him long, but what few interactions I had when he visited the preschool location I worked at, I knew he was a special person. My condolences to his family and closest friends.

Pete, I just finished watching the video done in your honor and I have to admit tears came to my eyes. As so many have shared before me, you were a light in this world that at times has been dark for all of us. Our friendship which began during college years together is a tremendous gift I will always hold onto. And although we went our separate ways after those 4 years at Baldwin Wallace, the occasions we did reconnect felt timeless. You had a gift for honesty, caring, compassion and bringing joy to others. And it appears those qualities resonated in each and every relationship in your short life. You will be greatly missed my friend. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to your sweet mom Sis, your brothers Chris, Dev and Nick, your family and to your partner Greg. May you be at peace.
