Obituary

Mr. Dennis William Preston, age 65, of Phoenix, AZ died June 6th, 2021 in McKinney, TX. He was born July 16th, 1955 in Cuba, NY to Telfer and Ruth Preston.

Dennis was born and lived in New York, and at the age of 14 his family moved to Blythe, California where he attended high school. He was very involved in his church youth group and high school drama club.

After graduating, he entered the Navy. He left the Navy after a few years and attended college in Hilo, Hawaii. He moved to Oregon to continue college and then re-joined the Navy. He spent the next 23 years in the Navy as a hospital corpsman. He was assigned to two ships, the USS Blue Ridge which was stationed in Japan, and the USS John F. Kennedy stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He had tours of duty in Guam, San Diego, CA, Bethesda, MD, Norfolk, VA and 29 Palms, CA. Dennis finished his master’s degree shortly before retiring as a Command Master Chief from the Navy in 2004. He moved to Phoenix, AZ to work as a healthcare administrator. He retired from healthcare in 2015 and began working on a farm.

He was involved in music ministry at every church he attended. He was a part of praise team, choir, bell choir and was a soloist as well. He was an elder, taught Sunday school and led youth groups. He was a talented artist and musician. He has done many paintings, he composed music and he completed many wood working projects.

He is survived by his son Caleb and daughter Abigail, as well as his sister Lolly Herrea, brothers Telfer and Calvin Preston, and his mother Ruth Preston.

He was preceded in death by his father Telfer, and his brothers, Greg and Clifford.

A memorial will be held on June, 21st at 3pm at Phoenix Christian Reformed Church 2438 E. Earll Dr. Phoenix. The burial will be at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix on June 22nd at 9am.
