Obituary
Mitchel (Mitch) J. Irlenborn, age 77 of Goodyear, AZ passed away May 27, 2019. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was born September 18, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA to Gus and Ann Irlenborn.
Mitch graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1964. He earned a master’s degree in Safety at Central Missouri State University in 1979. He served twenty-five years in the United States Air Force as a navigator, Minuteman Launch and Operations Officer, Ground Launch Cruise Missile Commander, and a flight planner for the U-2 and SR-71 pilots. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and numerous other medals and retired in 1989 as a Lt. Colonel. After military retirement, he worked in loss prevention for insurance companies and ran his own business, MI Safety Solutions. In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors, hiking and fishing, and listening to talk radio.
Mitch is survived by his wife, Carolbeth; daughter, Nia (Sidney) Clark; son, Dustin (Angie) Irlenborn; brother, Gus (Lois) Irlenborn; five grandchildren, Austin (Martha) Irlenborn, Braden Irlenborn, Kaylee Irlenborn, Isabella Irlenborn, and Zoey Irlenborn; and previous wife, Nancy Lowe.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am, June 8, 2019, at PebbleCreek Eagle Nest Military Memorial Plaza. Following the memorial service, family and friends are welcome to gather in the PebbleCreek Tuscany Chianti room for a video presentation and appetizers. The family request that donations be made to Wounded Warriors or Soldier’s Best Friend.

Mitch was a good friend of mine and my wife as well and a fellow hiker in the PebbleCreek Hiking Club. We hiked together for about five years. He was very helpful with club activities, like picnics, and a friend to many members. In recent years after he had to quit hiking we went to many movies together. He liked war and Mission Impossible type movies especially. He will be missed by all who knew him. One comment from another member was “He was so loyal to the club even though he hasn’t been able to participate for quite awhile. He will be missed.”

So sorry to hear of my cousin, Mitch’s passing. He was one of my Mom’s favorite nephews and I heard so many nice stories about him and Carol. Our condolences go out to his family. Rest in Peace.

I met Mitch about six months at the Tuscany gym (in PebbleCreek) …. his workouts were long and intense. I said hello and asked him how long he spent working out … three hours he said …. but as you can see, I’m not as steady on my feet as I used to be. Mitch shared about his kidney disease, his past hiking experiences and his wife (he smiled). I came home and shared with my husband that I met a new friend at the gym and told him about this amazing man that I had the utmost admiration. I greeted Mitch the few times I saw him after that …. which I so enjoyed … but was concerned as he seemed less energetic and I wondered how long he would be able to continue. When I read about his passing in the Post ….. I was so sad. There are some people that leave an imprint on your heart …. Mitch was one of them. I send my deepest condolences to Carolbeth and family …. May God Bless you and keep you … and give you peace, Tina Pohl
