Obituary

Michael Roy Pennington, 73, of Goodyear, Arizona died on August 7, 2021 in Goodyear, Arizona.  He was born January 5, 1948 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Sydney Pennington and Mildred Gilliam.

Michael grew up in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  He met the love of his life, Jo Katherine (Jodie) and they married on October 11, 1965.  He joined the United States Army in 1961 and was medically discharged in 1964.  Michael moved to Arizona in 1967 and joined the Avondale Police Department on his 21st birthday, January 5, 1969.  He later transferred to the Maricopa Sherriff Office in 1977 and retired from them in 2005.  Michael also worked with the US Marshalls office for two years.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Katherine (Jodie) Pennington, daughter, Michelle Foster, son, Konner Pennington, chosen sisters, Deana Lewis, Carol Ingle, and Darla Skelton, chosen brothers, Terry Young and Danny Pennington and Tom Gilliam (by other mothers), grandchildren, Megan Fiero, Makenzie Foster, Nic Foster, and Nate Foster, and great-grandchildren, Alec Foster (his buddy) and Ronan Toliver.  Michael was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A service will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel (926 S Litchfield Rd. Goodyear, AZ 85338) on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 8am to 11am.  There will be a celebration of life of life to follow at Skyway Church (14900 W Van Buren St. Goodyear, AZ 85338).
