Obituary

Leon “Popcorn” Wheaton, 86, of Tolleson, AZ, died on March 28th, 2021, in his home in Tolleson, AZ. He was born on April 29th, 1934 in Bridge Creek, WI, to Richard Wheaton and Jean (Langworthy) Wheaton.

Leon was a retired military veteran and served a total of 20 years in the military including the Navy Seabees and the Air Force reserve. He loved old hot rod cars, auto racing, reading Louis Lamour books, listening to country western music, telling jokes, making people laugh, and spending time with family and friends. He also was an owner operator of his own trucking business for many years.

Leon will be truly missed by his family and friends and will leave a void in the community that came to know and love him so well.

He is preceded in death by his father Richard, his mother Jean, and his wife Shirley.

He is survived by his daughter Marnie Wheaton, son Creed Wheaton, daughter-in- law Abigail Wheaton, brother Larry Wheaton (Kathleen), grand-daughters Chelsea Wood, Leah Wheaton, Moriah Wheaton, Hannah Wheaton, Laurah Wheaton, and great grandson Greywolf San Miguel.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd. in Goodyear, Arizona, at 6:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 918 S. Litchfield Rd. in Goodyear, Arizona, at 10:00AM with burial services to follow at Greenwood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 719 N. 27th Ave. in Phoenix, Arizona.

Would like to be sending prayers and love to Leon’s Popcorn‘s family Popcorn was loved by so many I’ve known Popcorn since I was a freshman in high school so 6465 years ago well longer than that probably since I was 14 so sorry for your loss I know Shirley and Popcorn we’re very proud of you two kids so love to you and all those who have shared the love with Popcorn a friend Charlotte

  2. So sorry for your loss. Popcorn was a great man. My mother (Ardibell Hoover) and him were the best of friends-she idolized him. She always looked forward to seeing him at family gatherings. He will be missed by all
