Obituary

Mr. Lauro Duarte Fierro, 89, passed away peacefully in Goodyear, Arizona on December 11, 2021. He was born in Malaga, New Mexico on March 28, 1932 to Eliza Duarte Fierro and Jesus Acosta Fierro. Lauro was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eva Hernandez Fierro; their son Ishmael Fierro; brother Louis Fierro; sister Azucena (Susie) Gonzales; and nephews Joe F. Gonzales, Orlando Fierro, and Jubencio Gonzales, Jr.

Lauro was a veteran of the Korean War in which he served from 1951 to 1954. He received several medals for his service as an infantryman in a heavy artillery unit including: a Bronze Star, National Defense Medal, Korean War Defense Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

After serving in the military, he worked for General Electric in Carlsbad, New Mexico from 1956 to 1974. He then worked for Hannon Electric in Mesa, Arizona from 1974 until his retirement in 1994.

In his free time, Lauro enjoyed all sports, especially the Phoenix Suns. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his family; it was when he was the happiest.

Lauro is survived by his children Lorinda (Tom) Caratachea of Buckeye, Arizona; Alfonso (Lisa) Fierro of Tucson, Arizona; and Lauro (Ellie) Fierro Jr. of Vail, Arizona; Yesenia Fierro of Chandler, Arizona; and step-daughter Mary E. (Carey) Kirk of Goodyear, Arizona; daughter-in-law Lisa Fierro of Gilbert, Arizona;. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Delma G Hernandez, Susan G. Jones, Linda G. Vigil, Speedy Gonzales, Richard Fierro, and Rudy Fierro; grandchildren: Orlando Navarrette, Jr., Lauro Jason Fierro III, Stephanie Lynn Fierro, Jocelyn Laurel Acosta, Matthew Louis Fierro, Anthony Fierro, Christina Marie Fierro, Roman Gabriel Trujillo, Jr., and Raul Adrian Herrera III; and his great-grandchildren: Lauro Jason Fierro IV, Celene Alysse Wood, William Joseph Wood, Nevaeh Julianna and Isabella Lorinda Navarrette, Aspen Amelia Fierro, Neesa Celeste Trujillo, Allyna Rafaelita Acosta, and Jeremiah David Renfrow.

A Funeral Mass will be held January 26, 2022 at 11AM at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Parish in Scottsdale, Arizona. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona.

  4. Dad, you left us so unexpectedly but I know deep down that you were talking to me about that it was time for you to go rest and that you were tired. I have lots of great memories especially the last two years that you lived with me and Tom and Pelon. You will always be on my mind and I will always feel the Love that you had for all of us.
