Obituary

John E. Scifers, age 57 of Glendale, AZ died November 9, 2019 in Santa Barbara, CA. He was born April 4, 1962 in France, the youngest child born to Lloyd and Janine Scifers. He had a passion for restoring cars. As a young man he began working at Summers Wrecking Yard. He later worked in recycling at Luke Air Force Base and as a body man at Titan Motorcycle.

John loved being outdoors. He was passionate about photography. He had a creative eye and took beautiful photos, especially in one of his favorite places on earth – Hawaii. He was always physically active. As a young man he competed in skateboard competitions, motocross and BMX racing.   These sports were in their infancy and John knew all of the competitors, including some that would go on to become famous forerunners in their sports.   His children and grandchildren never tired of hearing his stories of those glory days.

John loved his wife, children and grandchildren deeply. His grandchildren always ran to him to get their “papa hugs.” His family was his motive to fight hard when he was diagnosed with cancer. He surrounded himself with them, always staying positive, reveling in the joy of ordinary moments.

John, your love, your memory, your friendship, your knowledge, your kindness, your laugh, your smile, will be in our hearts forever. Your memories will not fade. Your time on this earth was short in comparison to most, but you made such an impact on family and friends. You taught us all so much over the years. Your strength to live life will keep us strong, knowing you fought the fight until God saw you could no longer. Our hearts are broken. We know you are with us and will guide us and continue to show us your love from heaven until we meet again.

John is survived by his loving wife, Angie Scifers; daughters, Jana Moreno, Jessica and Jeanette Scifers; son, John Scifers, Jr.; sister, Rose Scifers; brother, Patrick Scifers; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Scifers; mother, Janine Scifers; and grandson Jax Scifers.

A funeral will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Lighthouse Fellowship, 3015 N 195th Avenue, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340. Burial will follow at West Resthaven Park Cemetery. The family suggests that donations be made to any valley food bank or organization for foster children. Condolences for the family may be left at www.ThompsonFuneralChapel.com.

  1. Angie, my condolences to you, your children and grandchildren. Loved living next door to the Scifer family. I remember when you and Johnny got together and the birth of your 1st child. So happy you all had a wonderful life together.

I was glad I went back to this page. Thank you so much. You were always a good friend to John and later to me….we had great times, we were so young when we met, our love got us through 40 years. It’s didn’t feel like that long, time goes by so fast. My heart is broken, and life feels empty, this is the hardest thing I have faced in my life. I’m glad you have found the love of your life, you deserve it my friend!

  2. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your family’s loss. May the many memories, treasured photos, and love shared be a comfort always.
Rose, my prayers and thoughts are with you. I am so sorry to learn of your brother’s passing.

    John,
You could have lived a million years more and it still wouldn’t be enough time. Steve & I enjoyed every laugh, story, conversation, hug and love we shared together. You are a part of our hearts forever. You will be missed but NEVER forgotten!
Angie, Jana, Johnny, Jessica & Jeanette we love you all and are so sorry for your loss. Deepest sympathies. ♡

We love you both so much. It’s funny how in life people come into your life and as circumstances change you still are family! Thank you both so much for being part of our lives, your laugh and smiles were always so special to both John and I….you are both amazing! A million years would have been great! Each day the tears still come, I miss everything about him, his laugh, his smile, his voice, holding his hand, taking long walks…. Even the silly stuff like watching that 70s show….the bravest, strongest, most loving person….This world and our lives lost a great person! Will never be forgotten ????will always be loved, my sweet angel.

  4. My condolences to Jana, Michelle, and the rest of the Scifers family during this difficult time. May you find peace, love and light in the company of each other moving forward.
