Obituary

Joe E. Garcia, age 61, a life-long resident of Avondale, AZ died June 7, 2019, in Goodyear. He was born January 15, 1958, in Phoenix, AZ to Henry and Mary Garcia. He graduated from Agua Fria High School and worked as a stock manager at Food City in Avondale.

Joe’s life was centered around his children and grandchildren. He loved joining them in their favorite activities. Whether it was hunting with his son Joe, or traveling to his grandchildren’s sports tournaments with his daughter Rachel, Joe was always happy and excited to be with them.  He rarely missed any of his grandchildren’s activities, but when he did he would call Rachel to get a real-time, play by play commentary over the phone. His relationship with his grandchildren was special, full of laughter, joking, encouragement, and love. He scheduled Wednesday morning “Breakfast Club” meetings with his grandson and always expressed his love, encouragement, and pride in their accomplishments to his granddaughters through phone calls. His family was in his every thought and was the source of his deepest joy.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Rachel Cabrera (Javier); son, Joey Garcia (Chandy); sisters, Caroline Ortiz (Domingo), and Sylvia Flores (Alex); brothers, Rudy (Sheila), Henry, Mike, and Rick Garcia; and seven grandchildren, Destinee Cabrera, Desiree Cabrera, Joshua Cabrera, Brandon Garcia, Jacob Garcia, Jordan Mills, and Justin Garcia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Garcia.

A visitation will be held at 9:30 am with a rosary at 10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, Friday, June 14, 2019, at St. John Vianney Church, 539 E La Pasada Blvd, Goodyear, AZ 85338.

  2. Thank you Joe for taking me under your wing at food city and having my back from the get go. I’m gonna miss our break time chats that consisted of 10% news, 5% sports, and 85% stories of your grand kids and family time. You will be missed and always remembered.
