Obituary

Jerry David Rodgers, aged 82, of Goodyear, Arizona passed away February 7, 2024 in the comfort of his home and surrounded by loved ones. He was born November 23, 1941 in Franklin, Tennessee to the late John David Rodgers and Annie Lorene (Alexander) Rodgers. He is survived by his wife: Francie Rodgers, 3 sons: Justin Rodgers, Heath (Angel) Rodgers, and Rodney (Terri) Rodgers, daughter: Stacey Rodgers, and his siblings Jody Alexander Rodgers and Janet Ann (Rodgers) Moran. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Jeremy Rodgers, D.J. Storey, Maddie Rodgers, Christopher Rodgers, and Sabrina Warner, as well as one great-grandchild Jojo Austin.

Jerry graduated in 1960 from Franklin High School in Franklin, Tennessee. While in school, he played on several teams for the Rebels including football, basketball, baseball, and ran track while participating in student council. He also played basketball while attending Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee. Jerry enlisted in the Army National Guard in November of 1963 and served until his discharge in November 1969.

He married the love of his life and best friend, Francie Lorene (Lopez) Rodgers, on October 10, 1981. Together, they lived a happy life and enjoyed traveling and creating special moments with each other. In his professional life, Jerry was a salesman for everything from jewelry to insurance, mortgage loans, shrink wrap and even medical equipment. Jerry enjoyed his simple life that was full of love for his family, friends, and his University of Tennessee Volunteers. He was passionate about “his team” and always wore his signature orange cap with the white “T” on the front. When the team played, you could always hear Jerry chanting “G.B.O!”

Jerry was a good man whose family came first. He encouraged forgiveness where possible and acceptance when it wasn’t. His passing leaves an immeasurable silence in our world. We know he would want us to continue his legacy of unconditional love and cheering on the Tennessee Vols.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Estrella Mt Church in Goodyear, Arizona at 1pm. A celebration of life will be held immediately after in the courtyard to share stories and remember the good times.

In his honor, please wear UT Orange as he was the Vols #1 fan.
