Obituary
Jack Ray Porter, age 74 of Avondale, AZ died December 31, 2019, in Avondale, AZ. He was born August 30, 1945, in Sullivan, IN to Hubert and Betty (Jordan) Porter. Jack grew up in Oaktown, IN. He served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Sergeant. A wounded veteran of the Vietnam War, Jack was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his valiant service.
Jack worked for the US Post Office for 31 years. He served as a deacon at The Church at Litchfield Park. An outdoorsman and gun enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, camping with his friends, and weekend adventures with his neighbors. He was a wonderful husband and a great dad.
Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheila Porter; daughter, Kindra Porter; two sisters, Elizabeth Waggoner, and Janelle Waldroup; and brother Tom Porter. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 18, 2020, at The Church at Litchfield Park, 300 N Old Litchfield Rd, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340. Burial will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024. Condolences for the family may be left below.

Sheila, Vicki and I were so saddened to hear of Jack’s passing. He was like a big Brother to me and greatly influenced me in my choices for military service. Many great memories of playing music on the week ends at Oaktown. You and Jackie introduced me to my wife of 48 years. Jack was a true US Army Hero. I , along with all the rest of the Vietnam Veterans Salute you my friend. RIP

Jack was a special and great friend to me since the 1990’s . My wife Polly and Sheila got us together. Jack was skilled to do anything. Anytime I needed anything I called Jack and he was always there to help me. From major storm damage to our house in 1996 to sprinkler problems , plumbing problems and even He built custom Cornish Boards for our house. He was always trying to teach me how to repair or build stuff. He taught me how to safely handle and maintain firearms and we spent hours in the desert shooting targets. Jack, Shelia, Polly and I also made two vacation trips together. One to San Francisco in 2005 and another to Washington DC in 2009. Fondest Memories Jack; My Friend! Rest In Peace in Heaven; I’m sure Polly has greeted You up there. My Love and Prayers are extended to Shelia and Kindra and your family!

Sheila and Kindra,
Our hearts were broken when we heard about Jack’s passing!
We will hold on to all the good times we all had on trips we have gone on and motor cycling. He’s gone way too soon, but God has called him home.

Jack was a very kind man that could always make you laugh. I always enjoyed the time I spent with him and his family and will hold onto those memories. Jack is, and will be missed!
