Obituary

Henry M. Rodriguez “Pelo Shine” went to be with the Lord and his two sons on October 28, 2020. He was 75 years old. Henry is survived by his wife Stella, his sons Steve (Cece) and Rick, his daughter Suzanne (Art), nine grandchildren (Melissa, Daniel, Sierra, Averie, Alex, Gabriel, Jacob, Samarah and Liviyah), four great-grandchildren (Emmet, Elias, Lylah and Ibrahim), four brothers and three sisters. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and by two of his sons, Henry Jr. and Gabriel.

Henry was born on January 31, 1945, to Julio and Elida Rodriguez in Phoenix, Arizona.  He grew up in El Mirage and met his wife Stella Moreno in 1963. Henry and his family lived in the West Valley throughout his life. At the time of his death, Henry and Stella resided in Avondale.

Henry worked in masonry for more than 40 years. He was a hard worker who took great pride in what he did.

Henry was also known for being a good neighbor and friend, someone you could count on to help whenever it was needed. Many times, you didn’t even need to ask; Henry would step in and do what needed to be done.

Henry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. As the grandkids started to make their appearances, Henry would bounce them on his knees, sing silly songs, and make sure they were smiling and having fun. Henry also enjoyed fishing, especially with his sons and their boys.

The exact story of how Henry received the nickname “Pelo Shine” is unclear, but Henry enjoyed nicknames. He handed them out as soon as he met you, and they were good, the kind that stick and draw a smile.

Henry will be remembered for the way he took care of those close to him. He loved his family very much and was extremely proud of his wife and of his children. Henry will be remembered as a caring father and as a generous and loving grandfather and great-grandfather. His friends will remember Henry for his big smile, and his neighbors will remember him for his helping hand.

Henry’s service will be Wednesday November 4, 2020, at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear at 6pm. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
