Obituary

Glenn Julius Hepner, was born on December 4, 1952 at the family farm in Fresno County, Raisin City, California.

His childhood consisted of taking care of the family’s business; first of raising turkeys, then cows for milking as well as taking care of the land that was used to grow crops for the animals. He learned early on how to work on the tractors, vehicles and other equipment used on the farm.

The year he turned 18, he met his beloved wife, Margaret, and after a brief stint in the US Army, they were married in the summer of 1973.

Not long after getting married, he and Margaret welcomed their first of four children. Glenn spent many of his years teaching first his wife, then his children how to farm the land he loved, as well as taking care of the many different animals that were raised. Glenn had a brief time away from the family farm working as a bulldozer for Jack Campbell. He then tried his hand for a few years at being a vineyard manager in Alvina, CA. These both didn’t last too long, and he was soon called back to the family farm to take over for his father who had failing health.

Glenn spent many years helping his children with their various school activities, whether it was as a chaperone, a chauffeur, or even helping to raising and showing dairy heifers while his children were in FFA, Glenn was always quick to help as needed.

Through the years of watching his children grow, he and Margaret enjoyed hosting parties at their house where many friends and family members enjoyed his beautifully landscaped front yard and BBQ’s. Glenn was not able to take his children on many vacations nor enjoy a lot time traveling and being away from the farm, as it was a 24/7 job, he still always made time for his family, to go camping in Kings Canyon with his sister Evelyn and her family or to Laughlin to do a little gambling once the kids were older.

It wasn’t until his wife, Margaret retired that he decided to retire as well from farming and to put his love of traveling into full effect. So, with their new “child” (a black lab) Star, and then later with his current “child” Tarbee, he and Margaret bought an RV and started traveling to wherever their children lived and to explore the countryside. Whether it was to the central coast, Texas, North Dakota, or Arizona, Glenn always found somewhere for him and Margaret to go explore or just visit with the grandchildren.

Glenn then became a permanent caregiver for his wife Margaret when she was put on full-time dialysis in 2018 and sadly their travel time was cut short. Glenn and Margaret still found ways to move from town to town, only now staying closer to where his children were so they could help out.

Glenn Julius Hepner is preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Ann Stockton Hepner, his sister, Evelyn Prudek and brother-in-law Jerry Prudek, his brother, George Andreas Hepner, Jr., his parents George Andreas Hepner, Sr. and Anna Koenig Hepner, as well as his mother-in-law, Cleo Stevens Stockton.

He is survived by his four children, Jennifer Bairos, Heather Duran, Christina Hubbard and John Hepner, his grandchildren, Jonathon Bairos, Jordan Bairos, Alex Hubbard, Gabriel Duran, Christina Duran and Julie Hubbard, his first great-grandchild was on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Dollie Hepner and his brother Jim Hepner; many beloved sister in-laws and brother in-laws; as well as many nieces and nephews which he was very close with and treated many as an extension of his own children.
