Obituary

Evelyn Joyce Goheen, age 76 of Tolleson, AZ died November 5, 2018, at her home.  She was born September 22, 1942, in English, IN to Leo A. Gilliatt and Alma J. Cuzzort Gilliatt.  Evelyn grew up on the family farm with the cows, chickens, and corn fields and attended High School in Paoli, IN.  When she turned 18 she left home to attend the Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN.  She went on to work at Bell Telephone in Minneapolis.  There she met her first husband, Dale Lindquist, and gave birth to her first child, Sandra.  In 1962 the family moved to Bloomington, IN, and a divorce followed.  In 1975 she gave birth to her second daughter, Erika who added great joy and love to the family.

Evelyn was a woman ahead of her time.  She was very artistic and had a talent for interior decorating that was always one step ahead of the popular trends.  She was always warm and friendly, though quiet, but she also had an inner strength that propelled her past any obstacles in her way.  As a single mother, she became the first female realtor in Bloomington, IN, and the first female to obtain her GRI license.  She successfully battled breast cancer and came out of it with an even stronger resolve to live life to its fullest. A self-taught presidential scholar, Evelyn was very patriotic.  She was extremely interested in politics and restoring our Constitutional Republic.

She met her second husband, Eduard in 1976 and was a loving wife, friend, and partner for over 40 years.  She assisted him in his general contracting business and supported him in everything that he did.  They enjoyed bowling, Sunday drives to look at houses, and season tickets to Indiana Pacer Basketball games.  Evelyn resided in Bloomington until Ed retired in 1995, and they moved to Scottsdale, AZ.

She raised two independent daughters who felt her love to the depths and heights of their souls.  As they moved past the challenging teenage years, their relationships moved from mother-daughter to friendship.   She was instantly in love when her grandson was born.  She finally had her boy!

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Eduard Lee Goheen, daughters, Erika C. Ivins, and Sandra D. Francis; brother, Cyrus Lynn Gilliatt; and grandson, Justin A. Ivins, Jr. (Bonzi).  She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo A. Gilliatt and Alma J. Cuzzort Gilliatt; sister, Rosemarry Gilliatt, and brother, Fredrick Gilliatt.

Per Evelyn’s wishes a Celebration of Life will be held near her old homestead in Paoli, IN this coming Spring.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
