Obituary

Asher Benjamin Ariel Ruthenberg, age 17 of Litchfield Park, AZ died November 10, 2019, in Litchfield Park, AZ. He was born June 2, 2002, in Kingman, AZ to Mark Ruthenberg and Tatyana Tskhai. He was a student at Millennium High School. Asher was funny. Whether cracking jokes, acting silly or a little bit crazy, he enjoyed making people laugh. Like most teenage boys, he loved to play video games. Call of Duty and UFC were his go-to games and Ricky, Connor, Brody, Kyle, and Brandon were his buddies. He was a fan of MMA and wrestled for three years.

Asher was also politically inclined and enjoyed conspiracy theories. He lived in Russia with his mother for four years and was bilingual in Russian and English. His time abroad opened his eyes to a world view that was uncommon for someone his age and he became concerned about political and economic situations in Russia and Korea. He was a brilliant writer and often expressed his feelings and apprehensions in poetry. Though prodded by his English teacher, he never felt comfortable openly sharing his prose.

Asher is survived by his mother, Tatyana Tskhai; sisters, Sarah McCovery, Rachel Ruthenberg, Gracie Tskhai, and Jazmyn McCovery; and brothers, Micah, Efraim, and William Ruthenberg, and Clarence McCovery. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Ruthenberg.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday, November 22, 2019, at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ 85338. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Thompson Funeral Chapel.

I would like to send out my condolences to the entire family and his closest friends. It has been an honor to meet and serve so many of you. I am truly sorry, but also dumbfounded for the loss of Asher. He was one of my most favorite teenagers ever that I had the privilege of working with. He was so smart and had such a fun sense of humor. He worked so hard at tearing down his tough stubborn shell and work through some difficult situations and uncomfortable emotions. He allowed himself to be vulnerable and was willing to learn from others. He appreciated his Arizonan family members so much, but I also got to sit in on many of his conversations with his mother and siblings overseas. He loved Skyping and being able to see their smiling faces. He was always surprised how big Gracie was getting and he has had a special place in his heart for his brother Billy. He missed you and was so proud of you Billy. He frequently spoke about visiting you and building that gaming computer together. I know Asher had a lot going on recently that I didn’t know about, but I knew his heart well ❤️ and was fortunate to help mend some relationships with other family members that meant so much to him. And last but definitely not least, I know he appreciated you Sarah and Clarence for welcoming him into your home and providing him with such a blessed opportunity for a fresh start. Asher, you will be missed, champ!
