Obituary

Shirley Vernadine Clegatt, 88, of Goodyear, Arizona died on August 14, 2021 in Goodyear, Arizona.  She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to George Cooper and Gladys Appleton.

She is survived by her daughters, Kendra Orr, Sonya Love, and Jerri Jenkins, grandchildren, Amber Pruitt, Chaunte Person, Charles Malloy, Derrell Shabazz, Jasmine Shabazz, and Domonique Shabazz, and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jesse, Asyana, Atyrra, Giovanni, Marcello, Camilla, Amyus, Derrell Jr., Amyah, Javaree, Zareeah, Isabella, Gabriella, and Da Niya.  Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, Anthony Cooper Sr. and Kennard Cooper Sr.

Her Journey’s Just Begun

Don’t think of her as gone away her journey’s just begun

Life holds so many facets this earth is only one

Just think of her as resting, from the sorrows and the tears

In a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years

Think of how she must be wishing that we could know today

How nothing but our sadness can really pass away

And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched…

My mom was one of the strongest woman I have ever known. I can honestly say I don’t know any other woman as strong as her. She has raised some strong independent women. She is loved and will be missed dearly!

Grandma God bless you and keep you! I am so grateful for the daughters you raised. Thank you for these gifts. Rest well, I love you.
