Obituary

Ofelia Lopez Trujillo of Avondale, Arizona passed away May 16, 2023 at the age of 98. She was born May 6, 1925 in Cashion, Arizona to Ricardo Soto Lopez and Rosalia Curiel. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose M. Trujillo and son Rodolfo Trujillo. Ofelia is survived by her daughter Marta Evans, son Joseph Trujillo, sister Odelia Maese, and three grandchildren.
Ofelia grew up in Old Litchfield Park, Arizona. She attended Litchfield Elementary and High School. She married Jose, her husband of 53 years, in 1942. During World War II, Ofelia worked as a wing riveter at the Old Goodyear Aerospace facility.
Ofelia was a homemaker and was better known as Tia Yaya. She was a great and innovative cook. Her flour tortillas were massive and the best in the world. She was a devout member of the Catholic Faith and sang in the choir at St. John Vianney and later at St. Henry’s in Buckeye until her early 90’s. In her free time, she loved to paint and sew. She was also an accomplished deer hunter and loved to spend time in the great outdoors.
A funeral service will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
