Obituary

Irene Barker, age 95 of Avondale, AZ died October 6, 2018, in Avondale, AZ.   She was born March 14, 1923, in Wigan, England to John and Alice Foster.  Irene was raised in England.  In support of the war effort during WWII, she worked at the munitions factory.  She married Eric Barker and in 1948 the newly married couple moved to Bartonville, IL.  Irene was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Illinois and sang in the choir for many years.   She and Eric lived in Illinois until 2014 when they moved to Arizona to be closer to family.  The couple was happily married for 70 years.  She was devoted to both her church and her family.

Irene is survived by her son, Brian Barker, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Barker.  A visitation will be held at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, Friday, October 12, 2018, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 918 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ  85338.  The funeral cortege will follow in procession for burial at West Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, AZ  85301.  The family suggests that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America.
