Obituary

George E. Stamaris, a resident of Peoria, AZ, passed away May 20th. He was 95.

A lover of all things historical, especially having to do with the Civil War, George could recite events of that time late into his life. His favorite pastime was golf, which he played into his 90s, often with friends half his age.

George was a proud World War II veteran who fought with the famed 82nd Airborne in some of the most ferocious battles to end the Nazi stronghold on Western Europe. He would recall the transport planes carrying him and his fellow paratroopers bouncing wildly as anti-aircraft firepower exploded around him, only then to parachute into the night.

But his great love was his wife of more than 70 years, Dorothea, a war bride who would be his best friend over so many decades. He was a loyal friend to many and no one who heard of his passing didn’t note what a wonderful, caring person he was.

George is survived by his wife and two children, Dorie (Brad) Hedien and Denis (Anne) Stamaris, five grandchildren and a growing list of great-grandchildren.

  1. So sorry to hear of George’s passing…he was a very nice man.

We lived behind them and would talk occasionally to him & Dorothea

  2. My thoughts with Dorothea and family on hearing of George’s passing. I hope this dear friend has finally caught up with Robert Eisnaugle and they are enjoying a good “old natter”.

Wow Dorothia, so sorry to hear that George passed away. Still remember our visit with you both in Oregon many years ago. George was my junior high school principal back in the late 60’s and a good friend of my parents (also in heaven). David and I now have 13 grandkids and 3 great grandkids. Blessings to you and yours. Take care now. Love, David and Kathy Long

  4. The months are clicking by since your passing yet you so often visit my mind. Mostly I’m just so happy I got to spend time with you near the end, to be able to tell you all the things I wanted to be sure you knew before you left. Now Mom is gone, too. Are you together? I so hope you are. I’ll always keep you with me, Dad. Your son, Denis
