Obituary

Eric Rainier Backhaus, child of the most High God, returned to be with his Savior and Redeemer on January 3, 2021. Eric was born to Mike and Judy Backhaus (Mattson) on February 21, 1991, in Tacoma, WA.

He blessed his parents as a wonderful, very inquisitive child who was fond of vacuum cleaners evolving into his passion for trucks and cars (especially diesels) as he grew into adulthood. He graduated from Black Hills High School in Tumwater WA in 2009. He served his country in the US Army as a helicopter structural repairman from 2013 until 2018, including a tour in Afghanistan and Germany. Post service, Eric worked as a telecommunications technician for Ericsson.

He met the love of his life, Brisa Moreno, in Phoenix Arizona in May of 2018. He loved her so much he bought a house for them to live together in Phoenix after his military service. They were planning to marry this Spring.

Eric is survived by Brisa and children Lailah & Daniel, his parents, sister and brother-in-law Tracy Backhaus and Daniel Garriga, grandparents Betty & Al Steiner and Pat & Vilas Backhaus. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Emma and Fred Mattson, and his cousin Taylor Feldmann.

We are thankful for all the great and loving friends of Eric we were able to meet during his short but meaningful time with us. To God be the Glory.

Funeral service will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, Arizona on Sunday, January 10th with public visitation from 1:00 – 2:30pm followed by the memorial service from 2:30 to 4:00 pm.
