Obituary

David Stanley Mabey, age 76 of Goodyear, AZ died December 21, 2018 in Avondale, AZ.  He was born June 2, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN to Elmer and Dolores Mabey.  David received a Bachelor’s degree in education and drama and a Master’s degree in adult education.  He worked as a human resources consultant specializing in compensation and benefits and taught human resources at Ottawa University.  He also taught business, economics, and English at Estrella High School in Avondale, AZ for five years.

David was addicted to reading, politics, and Fox News.  He was a history buff and had a strong interest in the constitution and American government.  He always carried a pocket sized version of the constitution wherever he went.  He loved to learn and never shrunk away from a learning about a new subject even if it was difficult to grasp.  He was particularly proud that he knew a lot of useless knowledge and was often urged to try out his expertise on  Jeopardy.

David was an avid hiker and loved backpacking, camping and visiting national monuments.  He was never afraid to try new things and enjoyed participating in sports like golf and pickle ball even if he wasn’t very skilled at them.  He liked playing pool, canasta, and mahjong.  He was an excellent cook, and was especially known for his homemade cannelloni.

David met his wife, Gladys at a ski club in Chicago.  They were married for almost 37 years.  Together they volunteered for Kare Bears at PebbleCreek.  He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Mabey; daughters, Kris and Kara Mabey; sons, Jason and Jonas Mabey; step-sons, Thomas, James and Michael Harper; and 13 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

A visitation will be held from 2:30 – 4:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 4:00 pm, Friday, December 28, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ  85338.  David Stanley Mabey, age 76 of Goodyear, AZ died December 21, 2018 in Avondale, AZ.  He was born June 2, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN to Elmer and Dolores Mabey.  He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. 2. The Duncan's says:

With Heartfelt Sympathy to the Mabey Family,

May you rely on the God of all comfort to help you to endure the days ahead.

“God is our refuge and strength” (Psalms 46:1).

  3. Tom Meek says:

I knew of David through Kare Bears. I enjoyed working with him in the office and enjoyed speaking to him concerning everything. He knew a lot about many things.

I also worked with and held Kare Bear posts along with Gladys. She was always supportive as David of the Kare Bears involvement in the community.

I, too, feel a loss with David’s passing. I wish to extend to his wife, Gladys, and the entire Mabey family my sorrow for their loss.

  4. Deepest sympathy to Gladys and family. May sweet memories sustain and comfort you in the days to come.
    John and Wally Campbell
