Obituary

Mrs. M. Louise Fischer Shortridge Beatty, 95, formerly of Phoenix and Cottonwood, died August 2, 2022 in Glendale, Arizona. She was born in Gary, Indiana in 1927 to Russell Miles and Grace Wilson Miles. Louise was the younger sister of Glen. Their father died before Louise turned 2 years old. The family moved many times and after Glen entered the Navy, Grace and Louise moved to Phoenix where Louise attended North High School and was in the school marching band. Louise met Cliff Fischer at a community dance and they married early in 1947. After working a few years at various jobs, Louise began working at Salt River Project. Louise and Cliff graduated from Phoenix Community College together. After the marriage ended, Louise enjoyed jogging, sightseeing, and spending time with her children and their families. She met Harold Shortridge, they married, and were active in The Horseless Carriage Club and the Looney Tooners in Tempe. They later moved to Cottonwood where Louise was active with the Cottonwood Connection vocal group. After Harold’s death, Louise was involved in church choir and other church activities. She met Joe Beatty at church and they eventually married. They often traveled to reunions of the USS Remey DD-688, to visit their families, and were involved in church activities until Joe’s death. She recently moved back to the Valley to be closer to family. Louise is survived by her children, Fred, Grace, Cecilia, and Shere, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother Glen. There will be a Celebration of Life at Vineyard Church North Phoenix, 6250 W. Peoria Ave., Glendale, at 10:00 AM., Saturday, September 17, 2022. Family suggests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, www.hov.org, or Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, in her name.
