Obituary

Warren Harrington Hendricks, 77, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Phoenix.

He was born Sept. 2, 1945, in Compton, Calif., to Grant and June Hendricks. He was raised with his older brother Steve and his younger brother Neil in the small community of Brea, Calif., where he made friends that lasted his whole life. He began working in the oilfields of California as a teenager, and after his high school graduation in 1963, he booked a flight to Hawaii, where he lived a carefree – and very memorable – life for a short time before returning to California. There, he met Myra Miller and her infant son, Larry. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska to work offshore drilling rigs. On Dec. 10, 1967, he married Myra and became Larry’s father. Upon returning to California in 1969, his son Wayne was born, and he attended California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, Calif., where he received bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and engineering technology. His first job out of college was with Santa Fe Drilling Company in Houma, Louisiana. From there, his work in the oil industry would take him and his family to countries far and wide – including Scotland, Indonesia and Venezuela. It was in Venezuela in 1977 that his son Bill was born. He rose through the ranks to management for companies that included Blocker Energy Corporation, Pride International and Energy Services Company. During his travels abroad, he made many, many friends and had a deep and meaningful impact upon so many lives. He retired as a vice president of South American operations in 2000.

Warren spent his retirement doing what he loved – hunting and fishing throughout the world. When he wasn’t traveling the globe, he would spend time at his home on the Parker Strip on the Colorado River, where he enjoyed taking his sons and all his friends water skiing. Out of all the places he visited and lived, the Parker Strip was his favorite place to be.

He is survived by his sons Larry, Wayne and Bill, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, his younger brother Neil, his ex-wife Myra, cousins, two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Steve. There will be no funeral services, and his Celebration of Life will be planned at the Parker Strip on a day near his birthday.
