Obituary

Robert Daniel (Dan) Tibbs, 74, of Sun City Arizona passed away on April 14, 2021.  He was born on February 26, 1947 to the late Albert S. and late Virginia R. Tibbs in Grinnell, Iowa. He is survived by his son from his marriage to Georgia Tibbs, Rob, daughter-in-law Dawn, and two grandchildren, Rachel and Colin. He is also survived by 4 brothers; Albert (VA; wife Cenith), Steven (IA), Gary (NE) and Michael (NV) and one sister Barbara (GA). Dan’s two siblings who preceded him in death are Larry and Karen.

Dan worked for IBM for many years, served in the Army and was honorably discharged.

Dan was a great man who regularly helped family and friends because service was his life’s work. He lived the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program. He joined AA in Nebraska in 1993 and continued with AA when he moved to Arizona over ten years ago and had been sober for 28 years. His hand was always out to greet newcomers and make them feel welcome. He sponsored many newcomers, volunteered to lead and assist others to run meetings. He held several leadership roles during his time in AA in both Nebraska and Arizona. He was an inspiration to many. His home group was Estrella Mountain, however, Dan attended other meetings such as the Mustard Seed, Maryvale Group, West Valley Fellowship, and the Downunder group.
