Obituary

Maureen Kathryne Bohl of Avondale, Arizona passed away on October 1, 2022 at the age of 82. She was born November 28, 1939 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Francis “Russ” Noonan, Sr. and Irene Noonan (neé Vens).
Maureen attended St. Bavo’s Catholic grade school and went on to graduate from Mishawaka High School in 1957. After graduating, she worked for the Curtis Wright Corporation in South Bend, Indiana and later for the General Motors Truck Division. In 1959, a mutual friend introduced her to her future husband, Dave Bohl. They were married August 5, 1961, soon after Dave graduated from college. The couple settled in South Bend, Indiana. Maureen continued to work at GM and as a legal secretary while Dave was employed as an engineer with the Bendix Corporation.
Maureen and Dave welcomed their son, Randall on May 16, 1962 and daughter, Danya on April 2, 1964. In the summer of 1966, the family relocated to the Ann Arbor area of Michigan. Maureen did volunteer work at the local school, and eventually took a secretarial job with the Ann Arbor school system and later with the University of Michigan Hospital. In 1974, Maureen and Dave built a home on an acre of land just outside of Chelsea, Michigan. A few years later, Maureen became the assistant to the Director of Special Education for Washtenaw County. Her office was at the Chelsea High School where her children would eventually graduate.
In 1988, the couple moved to the Phoenix area. Maureen retired after the move but still did some volunteer work at the local school. The couple built their home on the south lake of the Garden Lakes subdivision. They always said that if you have to live in the desert, it’s nice to be on a lake. In 2000, Maureen and Dave purchased 1 ½ acres of forested land up on the Rim in Overgaard, Arizona. After clearing a portion of the forest (mostly by themselves), they built their summer residence.
Maureen had always had an interest in sewing, and when the moved to Arizona she joined a sewing group and quilting club. She became very proficient at sewing and later on, with the aid of two computerized sewing machines, did some impressive embroidery work.
In 2016, Maureen was diagnosed with mild dementia after her family noticed she began to lose interest in sewing and other things she liked to do. In 2020, the disease began to progress rapidly and in August 2021, she fell and broke her left hip. The stress from the fall, resulting operation, and two weeks in rehab seemed to increase the progress of the disease even further. In December 2021, the family made the difficult decision that Maureen was no longer safe at home and needed 24-hour care. So, in January of 2022, arrangements were made to place her in the Auberge Memory Care Facility in Peoria. Unfortunately, even though she was receiving wonderful care the Memory Care Facility, she continued to deteriorate. In August of 2022, Maureen began to see a Hospice nurse each week. The hospice nurse was able to ease her pain with medications. They were there for her until the very end.
Maureen is survived by her husband, J. David Bohl; son, Randall Bohl; daughter, Danya Hallsell; granddaughter, Amelia Hallsell; sisters, Kathleen Noonan, Laureen Austin, and Charleen Romanelli; and brother Patrick Noonan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Franceen Shelby.

A visitation will be held at 8am, Tuesday, October 11, at Thompson Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10am and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at 11:45am.
