Obituary

Mathias John Neibauer, age 54 of Buckeye, AZ, died October 22, 2018, at Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear, AZ.   He was born October 27, 1963, in Great Bend, KS to Michael and Phyllis Neibauer.    Matt was funny, smart, talented and so cool.  A true renaissance man, Matt could do anything that needed to be done.  He loved to read and learned all of his skills from reading books.  A carpenter by trade, he built furniture and specialized in farmhouse tables.

Matt was a gifted musician.  He enjoyed writing songs and played a variety of instruments including guitar, drums, and keyboard.  As a young man, he was a member of a band in Texas that had the good fortune to open for Bon Jovi, Los Lobos, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Matt was friendly and always made a good impression with those he met.  He always noticed the needs of those around him and would freely share whatever he had to help out.   He had a dry sense of humor, loved puns and could be goofy at times.  His sense of humor was displayed in original comic strips that he created to the delight of his family and friends.  His favorite characters were whales.  His wit could get his family laughing so hard that they could hardly breathe.

Matt was a diligent father.  He was there to teach his children and ensure that their homework was done.  He taught them that good grades would lead to a good life.  He was particularly excited to meet his granddaughter and loved to have her and her mother visit.  Always a vigilant dad, he looked out for the safety and well-being of his family at all times.  And, as dads will often do, they could never leave the house without his parting words, “Be cool!”

Matt is survived by his partner, Jennifer Garrison; daughter Alexandra Aguilar; sons, Michael Neibauer and Dillion Blestrud; mother, Phyllis Neibauer; brother, Patrick Neibauer; and granddaughter, Novah Aguilar.  He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Leo Neibauer.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ  85338.  Burial will take place at 12:30 pm at Louis B. Hazelton Cemetery, 23100 W. Broadway Rd. Buckeye, AZ 85326.
