Obituary

Joyce Fay Collins, age 73 of Phoenix, AZ passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 in Tolleson, AZ. She was born on April 01, 1944 in Kingston, Jamaica to George Pinto and Esmine Green. In 1969, Joyce migrated from Kingston, Jamaica to Hartford, CT to seek employment opportunities to better the lives of her children. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant providing high quality care to patients. Joyce enjoyed baking, cooking, dancing, singing, watching Afrocentric movies and the television shows “Burn Notice” and “Charmed”, and spending quality time with family and friends. Joyce expressed love through the food she cooked. She cooked what gave her greatest joy, nourished others, and provided a way for family and friends to gather to show their love to those they loved through the dishes she created.

Joyce is survived by her daughters Norma Baker, Carol Baker, Sophia Baker, Arita Samms, and Stacey Samms; son Michael Baker; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother Dalton Harrison.  Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, George Pinto and Esmine Green; sons Paul Baker and Uriel Baker; sisters Beverly McCloud and Donna Green; and brother Junior Thomas.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 5:00 – 9:00 pm at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, AZ, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ .

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday,  March 10, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ . Burial will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, AZ.
