Obituary

Jimmy was born to Edward and Opal (Wheeler) Winn on February 9, 1941 in Sidney, Nebraska. He was the older of two boys (Brother Billy Winn).

The family moved frequently while his father worked on the railroad. Jimmy entered the fifth grade in Potter, Nebraska where he finished high school in 1959. He attended the Denver Institute of Radio and Television trade school for one year and graduated.

On May 22, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Naomi R. Fiegenschuh. They lived in Sidney, Nebraska for one year, while he worked for the Soil Conservation Company. They then moved to Pine Bluffs, WY where he worked for the Rural Electric Company as a lineman.

Jimmy always had a love for the Nebraska State Patrol so when the opportunity came up he was off to camp to be one of Nebraska’s finest. After graduation he was assigned duty in Albion, Nebraska where he lived and worked for nine years.

Jimmy thought he wanted to try something else and moved his family back to Sidney, Nebraska where he worked for Sidney CO-OP Company as a propane truck driver. Realizing he missed the Patrol he re-upped as soon as he could and then back to camp he went. After graduation for the second time he was assigned to Oshkosh, Nebraska. It was there he also joined the State Patrol S.W.A.T. team and was a member for 18 years with one of those years as team leader. He also had Governor security duty for a short time before ending his 30 years on the State Patrol on January, 1996.

Jimmy served as Chief Deputy for the Garden County Sheriff’s office one term, and went on to run for Sherriff where he served two terms.

Jimmy got his CDL to drive semi’s for wheat and corn harvest during his spare time.

He was involved with the Oshkosh Rescue unit, Boy Scouts, Special Olympics, Senior Center and a member of the Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodcarving, golf, fishing, horseback riding, but most of all he enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Naomi R. (Fiegenschuh) Winn; children, Wynette Lee (Winn) Reed, Tonya Sue (Winn) Green, Bruce Edward Winn, Stacy Jo Winn; grandchildren, Matthew Cerciello, Mallory (Green) Reis, Damon Winn, Dalton Riedel, Shelby Winn, Sammantha Riedel; and great-grandchildren, Ella Presler, Madilynn Winn, Luke Riedel, Emalie Winn.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ 85338. His final resting place will be in Oshkosh Cemetery in Oshkosh, Nebraska.
