Obituary

Guadalupe “Lupe” Bedoya, of Avondale, Arizona, died August 10, 2022 at the age of 94. She was born March 12, 1928 in Del Valle, Texas to Fermin Murillo and Tomasa Rodrigues.

Lupe grew up in Texas before moving to Avondale. She learned to cook at a very young age from her Aunt Lorenza. The family would frequently travel to different states to work in the fields and orchards. Once, they traveled for 5 days by train from Texas to Michigan while Lupe’s mom was seven months pregnant. In 1944 thy moved to Coldwater, Arizona and in 1946 they moved to their home in Avondale, Arizona. As they grew up, Lupe and her sisters would watch movies at the theater located next to Snider’s Drug Store and baseball games at the local elementary school. Lupe met her husband, Raymond Bedoya, while he was working at the drug store. They fell in love and were married in 1952 at Saint Matthew’s Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Together, Lupe and Raymond raised four children. When their children were grown, the couple traveled the world and went on cruises.

Lupe was known for her cooking. She was always in the kitchen baking pies, cakes and breads. Every Christmas, she and Raymond would make tamales and invited everyone over to enjoy them. Lupe even made wedding cakes with fountains in them. Lupe’s garden was always amazing. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She also enjoyed sewing. When her children were young, she would make her daughters and herself matching dresses. She could also knit and made blankets for the entire family. Another hobby of Lupe’s was breeding poodles. She loved her dogs, most recently Josie and Monique.

Lupe was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was always caring and giving and wanted to see others happy. Her passing leaves a shadow of sadness in her loved ones’ hearts; though we know she is in a better place.

Lupe was predeceased by her parents, Fermin and Tomasa Murillo, and brothers Tony, Gilbert, and Isidro Murillo.

She leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Bill Bedoya, children, Richard Bedoya, Diana Pompa, Carol Laborin, and Daniel Bedoya, and sisters Sarah Fierro and Bessie Lopez. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Phillip Pompa, Marissa Pompa-Gulick, and Nicholas Pompa, and five great-grandchildren, Julian (12), Luke (7), Gavin (6), Isabella Marian (2), and Eliana Violet (2).
