  1. In memory of my dearest Aunt Gertie, I pin a few thoughts. I was able to do so today in frustration because of my lack of tech skills. I could not make anything work correctly. I mentioned remembering her from childhood and told a couple of stories: A farm pig tripped me one morning when I was on my way to school because he wanted my lollipop! So I went to the bus stop about five blocks away (I don’t know how to estimate the mileage!). Aunt Gert immediately noticed that I had manure on my dress (one of two) and insisted I must go home to change. I didn’t want to miss going to school, so I argued no. She assured me she could talk the bus driver into waiting for me because he was her friend–one of many with a crush on her most likely! I ran home, changed, and ran back to find the waiting bus!
I also remember her being in a high school play and performing for an assembly! I was soooo proud of her and proud to be her niece! “I know something I can’t tell!” she sang repeatedly in the play! I’m fast approaching 82, but I still remember that!
Gert facilitated my being baptised into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and being able to attend its functions regularly for my four years of high school. She encouraged me to work hard, get good grades, and try to win a scholarship to college. I did accomplish much in high school to make her proud and did even win the scholarship which allowed me a BA degree to teach English/Drama in high schools and college for forty-five years! Many phone calls, letters, and a few long distance visits along the years kept us close to the end! I’m so grateful! And I learned what an amazingly caring daughter Pam was and is! She made sure all was well with Gert for thirteen years after Uncle Jim died! I will forever remember and cherish the time I observed a reuniting of Pam and Gert after Pam had been on a short business trip. April, my daughter, and I had gone to the assisted living area to be with Gert so that she wouldn’t miss Pam so much. But the reunion showed how much Gert had missed her. She rushed to her and the two embraced long and sweetly for momemts! So special. And as I was part of the final hours before Gert left this earth life for good, I also testify that she was having a most difficult time leaving her dear Pam. Gert was not showing much emotion during the last few days, but tears when she heard her dear son Chris in Hawaii also demonstrated a great love. She cherished the time in Hawaii with Chris and often told me of making a big pot of soup for him to take home to his place. In turn, she’d talk of flowers and magazines that he would show up at her door with. No doubt the same can be said for her love of Stewart and Craig. Sorry guys! I just wasn’t privy to recent encounters with her and you. But I assure you she talked most fondly of all her children many times during our long telephone conversations!
I don’t remember if anyone said this about Aunt Gert during Memorial, but I have to say that one amazing thing about her was her yearly remembrance of nieces, nephews, and their children on birthdays! My own children have spoken lovingly of that characteristic!
Thank you children for loving Gertie Mae. She was a wonderful mother to you. And thanks you from the bottom of my heart for the endless love and care, you, Pam, rendered unto her. I will love you always and offer the same care to you IF you ever need it! I wish I could physically embrace each of you sons as well and tell you how grateful I am for loving her and caring for her! God bless you kids (I’m old enough to be your mom!) to find peace and comfort in knowing Gert is in a safe happy place and that she will be preparing the way for each of you! I promise! CousinAnn–now the oldest living relative on Gert’s side of the family. I love y’all! Still proving I’m from the south even though I’ve been in Utah since 1961!
