Obituary

Evelyn (Evie) M. Hughes, 88, a former resident of Angora, Minnesota passed away November 10, 2021 at A Parents for Paradise Assisted Living Group Home in Surprise, Arizona.

Evelyn was born May 29, 1933 in Brandon, Iowa to Orris and Ruth Hunt.

Evie lived in many places when she was growing up – Iowa, Illinois, Oregon and finally Minnesota where she met the love of her life Donald Hughes. They were married for 57 years. Once married they resided in Anoka, Minnesota and Angora, Minnesota. In 2020 she moved to Sun City West, Arizona with her daughter. Their life together was one of love for each other and in this wonderful marriage they had two children. She enjoyed playing the piano, organ and accordion. Her other interests included crocheting, embroidery, sewing and gardening. Evie would make beautiful crocheted quilts and baby blankets and even shared her crocheting tips with neighbors. She was also an amazing baker and cook and canned vegetables from the huge garden she and Donald had. She and Donald loved to dance and would go regularly to one of the local ballrooms and dance polkas and waltzes. One thing that Evie enjoyed watching on TV was all types of sports. However, her love was for baseball and then football.
Evie was known for her feistiness. Her grandson had a nickname for her which she loved – Sparky. Evie was also known for her social personality – wherever she met people she always managed to find out about them and their family. She also loved life and living.

Evie is survived by her son Rick Hughes (Sue spouse) of St. Peter, MN and daughter Gayle Graber of Sun City West, Arizona. She had 6 grandchildren (Tammy, Stacy, Heidi, Tim, Chris, Nathan); 13 great-grandchildren (Kirstie, Tiffany, Hannah, Billy, Tyler, Jace, Dylan, Brett, Brady, Ellie, Greyson, Donald and James) and 2 great-great-grandchildren (Liam and Jasper) and many nieces and nephews.

Evie is preceded in death by her husband Donald Hughes, her parents Orris and Ruth Hunt and her sister June Goor.
