Obituary

Eileen Mary McDowell, age 83 of Goodyear, AZ died September 28, 2017. She was born May 4, 1934 in Lawrence, MA to James Francis O’Neil and Rose Mary O’Neill. Eileen was a graduate of Boston College going on to become a successful administrative assistant and purchasing professional. She was married 65 years to Richard McDowell, a Coast Guard officer, who together raised 5 children. Eileen’s strong work ethic and compassion for others was unsurpassed. In her later years she enjoyed sailing with her husband, crossing the Pacific Ocean from San Diego to Hawaii in their 32’ sailboat “Thisildu”. Eileen was strong, caring, kind, fun-loving and enjoyed crafts and reading. She is survived by her husband Richard C. McDowell; her daughters, Kathleen Schmadeke, Sandra Scovil, Susan Gonyou; her sons, Daniel and Richard McDowell; her sister Rose Dickson, 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.   Eileen is at peace with God and will be truly missed by all. A memorial service was held at 12:00 pm, Friday, October 6, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ.  Burial will be at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl Crater, 2177 Puowaina Drive, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96813.
