Rhea Gay Lundmark, of Avondale, died on September 21, 2014.  She was born on June 16, 1933 in Dearborn, Michigan.  She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from Washington University, in St. Louis, and Arizona State University.  Her teaching career started in 1954 in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Missouri, and continued until her retirement from the Glendale Elementary School District, in 1998.  After her retirement as a school teacher, she remained active in Christ Community United Methodist Church, to which she belonged for 50 years, and was instrumental in starting Opportunity House, a United Methodist-sponsored program that offers tutorial services free of charge, mainly to children and adults for whom English is a second language.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Bruce Erbe Lundmark.  She is survived by her sons, Todd (Carole), Scott (Brenda), Jeff, and Ross (Francine); her daughter, Gay Lockling (Tim); her grandchildren David Lundmark (Shandina), Christine Lundmark (fiancé Blaise), Bryce Lundmark, and Audrey Lockling; her step grandson, Mike Swetman; her step great grandsons Colby and Brandon Swetman; and her brand-new great grandson, Robert Lundmark.  Her memorial service will take place on Monday, September 29, 2014, at Christ Community United Methodist Church, located at 104 W. Western Avenue, Avondale, Arizona starting at 11:00 a.m.  Memorial gifts in Rhea’s honor may be made to CCUMC, and designated for Opportunity House. Condolences can be sent to
