Curtis James, 94, of Goodyear, AZ, went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2012. He was born in Russellville, Alabama on June 26. 1917 to Will and Willie Ann James. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Stella Mae, and seven siblings. He is also preceded in death by his sons Will, Paul, and Ron James. He is survived by his brother Homer James of Russellville, AL and his daughter Mary Jo Barron of Goodyear, 8 grandchildren- Joanna Lee, A.J Barron, Montey Hurley, Curtis James,  Rebecca James, Wilfred “Curt” James, Sheila James, and Meagan Larew , 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Curtis was a World War II Veteran who served as a Military Policeman in India. While in the Army, he received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one bronze star, and a Good Conduct Medal. After the war, Curtis lived in Ohio until 1959 where he worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber. Then the family moved to Goodyear, Arizona where he worked for Goodyear Aerospace until he retired in 1982.

He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Avondale and a lifetime member of the VFW of Avondale. Curtis was also a Master Mason- Acacia Lodge #42, a member of the Order of Eastern Star- Acacia Chapter #46, and served as a council member for the International Order of Job’s Daughters- Bethel #8.

Visitation will be held at First Southern Baptist Church of Avondale (1001 N. Central Avenue, Avondale) on Friday June 8, 2012 at 10:00 AM followed by funeral services at 11AM. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Memory Lawn (2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix). Memorials may be sent to First Southern Baptist Church of Avondale. Funeral arrangements were made by Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel.
