Obituary

Richard (Dick) C. Falor, 81, of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Goodyear, Arizona, died on April 9, 2021. He was born on September 17, 1939, to Claude Falor and Sylvia Bayer in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dick graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, then obtained his bachelor’s degree from Augustana College and a master’s degree from St. Cloud State University. He also served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967, reaching the rank of Captain.

He was a teacher in Minneapolis Public Schools and later worked at Honeywell/Alliant Tech Systems. Dick was a storyteller extraordinaire – he loved to talk to others! – and enjoyed reading and teaching others about history.

In retirement, Dick enjoyed splitting his time between Minnesota and Arizona. Dick liked hiking, biking, golfing, playing bocce, and teaching courses in the Pebble Creek Lifelong Learning Program.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Falor, daughter Allison (Steve) Larson, and son Michael (Annette) Falor. Dick is also survived by his brother, Jim (Jan) Falor, and three grandchildren: Zachary Fitzgerald, Sam Larson, and Paige Falor. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A celebration of life gathering is being planned for the fall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Mayo Clinic or the American Heart Association in honor of Dick.

    April 21st 2021,
Yuko and I are very happy to hear all of the beautiful, comforting and positive comments made by lifetime friends and relatives of Dick. As residents of the PebbleCreek community here in Goodyear AZ, and as fellow hikers with Dick and Lucy (2004-2010), we also experienced the kindness and thoughtfulness sincerely expressed by Dick on all of our hiking ventures. And many times, Dick was observed biking through the community as he was an ardent believer of ‘staying in shape’.
Thank you Dick, and Lucy, for sharing these senior moments and the beauty of the outdoors we enjoyed together.
    Sincerely,
    Doug & Yuko Jamiolkowski

  2. I just heard that Mr. Falor passed last night. Mr. Falor was certainly a favorite teacher and I was lucky to occasionally see him and Lucy as an adult.

  3. Mr. Falor may well have been the best teacher I’ve ever had at Patrick Henry High School. He was certainly the most memorable, and I mean that in only the best sense of that word. I was very sadden to hear the news of his passing. He was a terrific person.
