Obituary

William Thomas Reardon, Jr. age 78, of Goodyear, AZ died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at home, after suffering a stroke associated with Alzheimer’s.  He was born December 30, 1935 to William Thomas Reardon Sr. & Valentina DeBodt Reardon in Boston, MA. He was a proud Marine Corps veteran, serving from January 1954 to January 1957, remaining a Reservist until 1962.  While in the Marines he played for the branch’s baseball team, living one of his passions—to be a baseball player. William was a lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan, never missing a game.  The 49ers always came first—trumping honeymoon or births. After separating from his first wife in 1966, he was a single father of two small children, with sole custody, at a time when a father was rarely, if ever, awarded the responsibility. In August 1969 he met his second wife, Robyn, & they were married 3 months later on November 22nd.  The couple celebrated their 45th Anniversary shortly before his passing. While working a full-time job at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, CA & supporting his family, he attended San Jose State University at night, graduating with a BS in Business Administration, while also volunteering as a Little League umpire. William was consistently involved in the activities of his children.  Whether it was umpiring softball & baseball games or selling ads for the high school football team Booster Club, he was ready & able to help.  He also served as President for Bobby Sox.  Players would regularly come to the door, asking him to come umpire a game, & he would drop everything to go. He was also known to be the life of the party.  Whether at reunions, birthdays, or weddings, he was the man always ready to dance with the wives & friends, making sure all the women got out there to boogie!  He always said dancing was in his Irish blood. After retiring from Lockheed in 1992 he & his wife moved from San Jose, CA to Goodyear, AZ where they both lived until his passing.  He is survived by his wife Robyn Everitt, daughter Kristine, son Ronald, brother James, grandchildren Ashley, Nicholas, Katelynn, & Kelsey.  He is predeceased by his parents William & Valentina, brother Robert, sister Carol Frith, & daughters Terri & Kimberly.  William was a man with a quick wit, exaggerated humor, strong loyalty, great intelligence, & a deep love for family.  One running gag in the family is that William knew everything.  When his kids, & later his grandkids would ask a question, but he didn’t have the answer he would say, “that’s the one my dad knows”.  Another running gag was no matter where you were in the car, if you asked “are we there yet?” or “how much longer?” it was always 20 minutes, without fail.  A politically incorrect favorite was when someone was having issues with their undies & backside, William called it “Indians” because “they creep up on you”.  When traveling, he would also distract his kids by telling them to look out for signs of Chief Falling Rock & his friend Deer Crossing. A memorial service with military honors will be held Tuesday, December 30th at Sacramento National Cemetery promptly at 2pm.  Address is:  5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620 with lunch to follow at:  Cattlemen’s Restaurant, 250 Dorset Court, Dixon, CA 95620. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Season’s Hospice & Palliative Care (seasons.org).
