Obituary

Eunice Ann Vix, 86, died on Tuesday, July 25, in Goodyear, A.Z. Eunice was born in McHenry County, North Dakota, to Harry I. and Inga H. (Teigen) Severson on April 28, 1931. Eunice was the fourth of six children. She grew up in Sawyer, N.D. and lived in North Dakota until 2015.

An avid reader, Eunice graduated Valedictorian of her class in Sawyer, N.D., in May of 1949. During high school, Eunice was editor of her school newspaper. On July 10, 1949, Eunice married Herman M. Vix. Eunice and Herman (Ham) had two children, Jane and Michael. Eunice was an accomplished seamstress. She sewed many of the clothes that her children wore when they were young. When her children were older, Eunice went to work at Ellison’s Department Store and later Herberger’s in Minot, N.D. She worked in the cosmetics and ready-to-wear departments before retiring in 1994. Her grandchildren enjoyed visiting Eunice at work, getting a glimpse behind the cosmetic counter and being treated to cookies from the Grandma Whitty’s in the Dakota Square Mall. In 2005, Eunice and Herman moved from Sawyer, N.D. to Fargo, N.D. In 2008 they moved back to Minot, N.D., before leaving winter behind for good in favor of sunshine in Goodyear, A.Z. in 2015.

Eunice is survived by her husband, Herman Vix, her son, Michael (Cathy) Vix, her daughter, Jane (Barry) Rupprecht, her sisters Joyce (Dallas) Barker, and Darlene (Ward) Bunker; four grandchildren, Kristen (Mark) Chamberlain, Jared (Annie) Rupprecht, Lindsay (Brock) Halvorson, and Courtney (Nick) Kovats, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Carole Booth and Helen Huber, and her brother Quentin (Bert) Severson.

I was so sorry to hear of Eunice’s passing. I worked with her at Herbergers for 6 years and we always got along so well. We had many laughs and good times together at work. Even after I quit I would stop in Herbergers and say hi and we would visit and catch up. She was a sweet lady and a good friend. My thoughts and prayers are with Herman and all of Eunices family during this difficult time. My deepest sympathies to you all. RIP Eunice
