Obituary

Elsie Louise Vasquez, 80, of Buckeye, AZ , formerly of Avondale, AZ passed away August 13, 2016. She was born April 12, 1936 in Hanna, OK.   Those whom she loved knew her as Sissy while her many grandchildren knew her as “Sama.” She was the most lively 80-year-old anyone had ever had the great fortune of meeting. She was a story teller and had a special knack for making anyone’s day better just with a phone call. She had a deep love for her family and her friends. She didn’t say it often, but you knew she meant it deeply when she would say, “I love you.” She had a life full of love, happiness, and beautiful moments. She is remembered by everyone who loves her; her daughters, her sons, and all of her grandchildren. Sama, we can’t wait to see you again and hear all of the new stories you’ll have for us.

Elsie is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Davis, Margaret Orme, and Patti Chavez; sons, Charles, William, Michael and David Hickle, and David Vasquez; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Vasquez and grandchild, Kira Litten.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ. Interment will be at West Resthaven, Glendale, AZ.

  1. My condolences to the family. I will fondly remember Elsie for her hospitality and her unwavering love for all of you. When I am feeling old and tired,I think of her caring for her dogs at the crack of dawn, mopping her kitchen floor so it was clean enough to eat off of,and do laundry better than any professional cleaners, and I pick myself up and get busy! She has left a legacy of love and determination for us all to try and emulate. May God comfort you all in your season of loss.

  2. Sama,
Though I was not able to spend more than a year with you. It hurts to see your chair empty. The days I spent with you and hearing your stories made me feel loved by you and your family. I miss you dearly. I loved creating the sandwich story with you. I love you Sama.

    Mom,

I love you with all my heart and cant wait to see you again in heaven.

  4. Sissy, I will forever remember and cherish the way you would call and say” Now let me tell you something Nik” and you would tell me the 411 on the family. I will miss the days sitting on the porch smoking cigarettes and scratching scratchers and promising I wouldn’t tell the others.
I was very proud and honored to be in your life and thank you for raising a great man David Vasquez whom I married years ago. My favorite story you told me years ago was when you said Marilyn Monroe placed her fur coat over to keep you warm while rescue was on their way, and once you arrived at the hospital the coat was taken and never seen again. I miss you and love you very much mom. Thank you for being you and you will always have a place in my heart.

  5. Mike Orme says:

Mom… I will miss you so much and however hard I try I will never be able to find the words to describe the loss that I feel. I know that you would want us to move on as a family and in time we will…but you will always be here with us and we will never forget you. Over the years that I had the privilege to know and love you I learned many things from you, but I am particularly grateful to you for teaching me the true meaning of generosity and how to care for others who are less fortunate than myself. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your life for the last 16 years…I just wish it could have been longer. Always and forever…Mike xxxx
