Obituary

Dub was first a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a teacher of lessons, preacher of right vs. wrong and most importantly, the rock that a family, community and rowdy group of friends leaned upon. Dub was a residential and commercial painter by trade, but truly deep down he was a hot rod and car guy by heart.

Dub spent the early years of his life racing motorcycles and having fun with the love of his life, Ruth. Then as life progressed Dub turned his focus to raising his only son, Bryan, and with that came years of racing sprint cars in the twilight of the Arizona desert.

As he entered into the silver years of his life, he spent the majority of his time preaching life’s lessons to his grandkids, all the time doing what he was truly meant to do, and that was build cars. Dub had many life accomplishments to say the least, but if you were to ask him which one stood out the most, there would be one that stood out above the rest. That accomplishment would be his and Ruth’s cross-country trip in “Blackie” with only their black Simpson bag and trunk full of spare car parts. The most impressive aspect being that the 1932 Ford 3-Window Coupe was a product of his own two hands.

Dub was many things to many different people, but above all else he was a great man. He was a man that could be looked up to and one that kept his word, because as he preached, “The only thing you have in this world is your word.” Dub will truly be missed.

A visitation will be held 6:00 pm, Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, February 5, 2016 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 719 N 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ.  Condolences for the family can be left at www.thompsonfuneralchapel.com.
