Obituary

David Dean Wilson, age 77, passed away Monday September 25, 2017 and was the eighth child and only boy born February 14, 1940 in Coryell County to David Esrom and Trudie Franklin Wilson.  He was reared and attended school in Turnersville, Texas.  He was drafted to serve in Uncle Sam’s Great Army from 1962-1964, with the Defense Atomic Support Agency responsible for those aspects of nuclear weapons remaining under military control after the Manhattan Project.  He reported to the to the Secretary of Defense through the Joint Chiefs of staff, on nuclear testing.  He married Phyllis Phoebe Hebbard on January 1, 1967.

With no college degree, his career started out as a cook in a bowling alley and a shoe salesman in the Arlington area to becoming Senior Financial Officer in Houston serving under the umbrella of Halliburton. Halliburton, one of the world’s largest oil field service companies provided technical products and services for petroleum and natural gas exploration and production, which purchased Brown and Root and MW Kellogg merging the companies to form Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR).  KBR is a major construction company of refineries, oil fields, pipe lines, and chemical plants.   David’s travels included trips around the world to establish offices in places such as Dubai, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Algeria, & London and was engaged with people that shaped our world from Vice President Dick Cheney, David O’Dell, formally with Bechtel now with Kiewit Corporation as an Executive Director, Bob Low, Senior VP of Finance with Chindex dual headquartered in China…while maintaining that he was nothing but a “poor ole’ country boy from Gatesville, Texas”.

With the passing of his wife of 46 years in 2013, and no children, he continued to travel and visit family and friends until he settled into a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona to live with his nephew Chad Baugus.

David Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife (mentioned above) along with siblings Baby Girl an infant; Mrs. GertrudeIvalene Pruitt of Jonesboro, TX; Mrs. Violet Lucille Hurley of Arlington, TX; Mrs. Clela Inez Weaver of Dumas, TX; and Mrs. Alta Faye Pancake of Golden, TX.  Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lee Hill of Gatesville, TX and Mrs. Mattie Sue Phipps of McLeansboro, IL, along with a very large family of cousins, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces – too many to count.   Per David Wilson’s wishes he wants to be taken back to his home in Gatesville, TX, and his ashes are to be scattered along with his beloved wife’s over his parents resting place, followed by Military Ceremony (date to be determined).  A Celebration of Honor in his name will be held at the home of Chad Baugus on Friday October 6th, 2017 at 6pm.

Very sorry for the families loss. Dean was a great man from what I knew. Definitively Texan, always with a great story, charm and chivalry. Shoes like his are never refilled.
