Obituary

On Friday, August 11th Carol Duella Lawson, age 70 of Phoenix, AZ passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was born August 17, 1946 in Orilla, Ontario, Canada to Mostyn and Leola Lancaster.

In 2001, Carol and Wayne Lawson opened Signarama on 51st Avenue, with Carol serving as the president. The legal name of their company was 5 & 10 Ventures, Inc. The name was a reference to their “venture,” which began on May 10, 1980 when they were married. Both ventures were very successful.

As a family-run business, Carol was a part of all aspects of the store from production to customer service. Her personality and genuine concern for customers was why so many people came back time and time again to Signarama.

Not many people knew that Carol was battling lung cancer in 2011. She was a private person and she didn’t feel it was necessary to share that battle with the folks who came into Signarama for a sign. She did beat the cancer into remission.

2017 was a rough year for Carol. She had a brain tumor, which was operated on twice. After the second operation she fell and broke her leg. While in hospital, a routine test indicated that the cancer had returned. Recovery became slower each time she had a procedure and the cancer grew. Carol’s attitude, acceptance, and graciousness were amazing.

Carol is survived by her husband Wayne Lawson, daughter Theressa Bell, stepson Robert Lawson, and grandson Christian Bell. Thursday, August 17th would have been Carol’s 71st birthday. Signarama will be honoring her by closing on Thursday. Services for Carol will be private.

Carol loved animals. She was always doing things for those less fortunate. If you wish to make a contribution in her memory to one of her favorite charities, please consider one of these 501(C)3’s – BeddingAndBenefitsForBowsers.com, HomelessLiftPartnership.com, and Glendale-AZ.SalvationArmy.org.
